About Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Strauss' "Four Last Songs"

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Strauss' Ethereal "Four Last Songs"

As his amazing life neared the end, the great German composer Richard Strauss achieved a transcendent state of artistry, suffusing his "Four Last Songs" for soprano with an ethereal sense of calm and acceptance. The acclaimed Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and rising American singing star Heidi Melton perform these soaringly beautiful works, which include "Frühling" (Spring), "September," "Beim Schlafengehen" (When Falling Asleep) and "Im Abendrot" (At Sunset). Plus, hear the orchestra play Schumann's inventive, uplifting "Symphony No. 2" and the overture to the intensely emotional German opera "Der Freischütz".
