Brad Linde Expanded Ensemble: "Monk at 100"

About Brad Linde Expanded Ensemble: "Monk at 100"

Miho Hazama & The Brad Linde Expanded Ensemble: "Monk at 100"

The multi-talented Miho Hazama -- composer, arranger, pianist and conductor -- takes the reins of the Brad Linde Expanded Ensemble from the DC saxophonist-bandleader for this special event at the Atlas, celebrating the centennial of Thelonious Monk. Winner of the 2015 Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize, the Japanese-born Hazama performs and records with her own group, m_unit, but for this show, she'll be leading Linde's acclaimed 17-piece ensemble through her new big-band arrangements of Monk's famously challenging melodies. A pianist and composer, Monk was a jazz giant best known for tunes like "Round Midnight," "Straight, No Chaser," "Blue Monk" and many more.
