About Desert Hearts Festival presents City Hearts

How busy can one man be? Let Butane tell you. He's running 2 highly regarded record labels, producing EP's, albums and remixes for some of the most respected labels in the business, and touring extensively across the most renowned clubs in Europe, America, Asia and beyond... all without breaking a sweat.

A firm believer that the long hours of studio work keeps a musician grounded, he's produced many EP's, two albums, and countless remixes to date, on highly respected labels like Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Dumb Unit, Foundsound, Alphahouse, Rrygular, Mo's Ferry, and Hallucination Limited. Licensing original tracks to mix compilations such as Matthew Dear's Fabric mix, Luciano's HiFi SciFi on Soma and Damian Lazarus' Get Lost mix shows that his peers in the industry hold his music in high regard.

He is also the sole creative mind behind Alphahouse Records, one of North America's premier underground electronic music labels. His latest label project, recently embarked upon with his long-time friend Sean O'Neal (Someone Else), "Little Helpers", is blazing new ground in the digital music world, supplying tools to creative DJs the world over.

As a DJ, Butane uses vinyl, Traktor Scratch, samplers, outboard effects and whatever new tools are available to craft his sets. Plenty of experience as a headline performer as well as an after-hour favorite enables him to play with an incredible range, and his remarkable sensitivity to the energy of the crowd is the rare trait of a seasoned and perceptive musician. His skilfully developed sets are both classy and elegant, but surely never predictable; thanks to his huge collection of new and old tracks alike, expect anything from seamlessly blended groovy, sexy, peak-time techno to warm, deep, heady house music.

Butane certainly makes a strong case for himself as one of the true talents in today's music scene. How many hats can one man wear? Or maybe the real question is: Are there any hats left unworn?

Born and raised in sunny San Diego, and nourished by a love of the ocean and underground hip-hop, DJ Mikey Lion's life was forever changed after witnessing the debut of the Daft Punk Pyramid at Coachella 2006. From that moment on Mikey knew that a future in electronic music was the only life for him. Soon he was in college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, becoming the go-to guy to get the dance party started on the central coast, tirelessly dropping electro tech at every house party, bar, and club he could find.

Originally from England, Lee Reynolds moved to California in 1988 to ride BMX bikes. After numerous injuries he switched his focus from one pair of wheels to another, and started DJing in '92, quickly beginning to throw parties in the San Diego area, and focusing on the ambient and psychedelic sounds of the time.. an influence that will always remain.

Not content with just chillin' out the newly dubbed 'Dr.Indulgent' began to explore the more leftfield areas of dance music, collecting weird records on frequent trips back to London, playing gigs up and down the West Coast, and appearing on early internet radio shows such as Groovetech.

Fast forward to 2013 and Lee is heavily involved in the Southern California tech/house movement, co-hosting the popular Desert Hearts, Tropical Hearts & Moonshake parties, playing at the legendary Moontribe and Lightning in a Bottle events, and often DJing south of the border. With 20 years of experience under his belt Lee has never had more fun DJing!!!

The only thing constant in life is change; a constant cycle of adaptation and rearrangements. The power to dictate how those changes affect your life is in your hands and in your heart. Undying hard work on whatever it is you love to do, a spirit of optimism, and always surrounding yourself with positive friends and goosebump-ilicious music is the key to alleviate the stressors of change.

Those principles run deep in San Diego DJ and Burning Man enthusiast, Marbs. Everything changed for Marbs during a music festival in college when he saw Lee Burridge at the civic center in San Francisco during Love Fest, back when they still brought burning man art cars and parades through the city. That experience changed his musical outlook tremendously and ever since, Marbs has surrounded himself with that deep, tribal, sexy goodness.

As papa bear for the Desert hearts crew, Marbs is continually on the cutting edge of deep house and techno music. Inspired by Burning Man, this playa connoisseur, along with his band of desert dancing junkies, host a slew of underground open air gatherings; including their latest endeavor, Desert Hearts. His sound can be described as deep, dark, sexy, and tech. With dream-like melodies and hard thumping beats, Marbs takes you on a musical journey each and every time he touches the decks.
