About Dvorák's New World Symphony

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Performs Dvorák's New World Symphony

Dvorak's Ninth Symphony was one of the first major works to incorporate American folk-musical influences and it's been wildly popular ever since its premiere in 1893. In fact, Neil Armstrong famously took a recording of it with him to the moon. Subtitled "From the New World", it's a masterpiece of the classical canon fusing folk tunes, eastern Europe rhythms and sounds from Dvorák's native Bohemia. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will also perform Barber's "The School for Scandal Overture" and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. Before the concert, enjoy craft beer and food trucks outside Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
