About Karen Jonas

There are swinging country ditties, aching love songs, and dirty jokes. There are stories told by outlaws, gamblers, migrant farmers, and the humble narrator herself, Karen Jonas. Her debut album Oklahoma Lottery takes classic country in stride and dances all over the modern-day alt-country genre. Her voice is warm and sexy, whether breaking, trilling, or sighing over a landscape of Gretsch lead lines, atmospheric lap-steel, upright bass, and energetic percussion. Karen approaches great American stories with strength and bravery: she may be broke in wallet and heart but she's still kickin' in boots fit for a modern Americana sweetheart.

Karen has travelled a long road in a short time: raised in Damascus, MD, Karen finished a proper college education, married, had two children, and divorced all before plunging into her artistic aspirations at a still-young age of 20-something. Now flourishing in the supportive town of Fredericksburg, VA and armed with a band of local pros, Karen is poised to strike out at the regional music scene with the release of Oklahoma Lottery.
