About Maritime
Maritime was formed in 2003 by Davey von Bohlen (guitar/vocals) and Dan Didier (drums), both former members of the influential Midwestern indie-rock band The Promise Ring, along with The Dismemberment Plan bassist Eric Axelson.
Soon after forming, Maritime hit the road in support of an EP, Adios, which served as a preview for their debut full-length, Glass Floor (2004; DeSoto Records).
By early 2006, Axelson had left the band, and a four-piece lineup was solidified with the addition of Dan Hinz (The Benjamins, Carolina) on guitar and former Decibully bassist Justin Klug. Maritime's sophomore album We, The Vehicles was released on Chicago's Flameshovel Records that year.
By late 2007 Maritime had become a well-respected band on their own accord, not only because of the individual members' reputation as mid-90's emo pioneers, but mostly due to their steady stream of standout releases as Maritime. Their third full-length album, Heresy and the Hotel Choir was released in October 2007 to critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Spin Magazine.
Following a few quiet years in the wake of Heresy..., Maritime reconnected with former Promise Ring manager Jeff Castelaz and in April of 2010 announced their signing to Castelaz's label, Dangerbird Records (Silversun Pickups, Hot Hot Heat, Minus the Bear). Maritime's fourth album, Human Hearts, was released in April 2011.
The next chapter in Maritime's history is already being written. The band just finished tracking at their own recording studio, The Polish Moon, in Milwaukee—concocting a batch of songs that combine the darker tone of Heresy with the popcraft of We, The Vehicles. Look for their fifth, and yet to be named, album to hit stores in the fall of 2015 on Dangerbird.
