About Herb and Hanson, The Plate Scrapers, Hollertown
American roots duo Herb & Hanson features two songwriters expressing themselves with little more than a guitar, a mandolin and their respective voices. These restless ragamuffins have performed for audiences spanning the entire country, covering over 20,000 miles of asphalt, gravel and dirt every year since 2006. Their blue-collar work ethic is unsurprisingly conveyed through their deft instrumentation hammering along with sweet harmonies sung from an honest days labor to bring their modern folk songs alive to present-day America.
Herb & Hanson perform songs from America's oldest influences. Incorporating the blues styles of both Piedmont and Delta regions, the lyrical themes of the Blue Ridge hills, and the Ragtime bounce of America's oldest cities into their songwriting and live shows, this prodigious pair seeks to relay these traditions in a contemporary way for their audience to ruminate. They are creating new roots music.
The Plate Scrapers are a four piece string band performing traditional bluegrass and old-time tunes, topped off with a helping of their own original material. The bands wide taste in music, ability to jam, and impeccable instrumentation, will keep you coming back for seconds!
Hollertown is a six-piece bluegrass and old-time band from Washington, DC, specializing in an eclectic mix of original songs and covers, including the occasional Bob Marley and Motley Crue song. Hollertown plays monthly shows at the Argonaut on H Street, NE, and at the Dupont Circle Farmer's Market. For the past three years, Hollertown has played at the Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival in Washington, DC, and two months ago Hollertown made its debut at Iota in Arlington, VA, opening for Laura Cantrell.
